"Om mangalam, Mission mangalam" goes the song - a perfect match for a Mission Mangal that in real life went thru on a wing and a prayer. Simplistic at times in trying to simplify scientific concepts to the lay moviegoers, it’s still an enjoyable ride to the heavens with a desi Hidden Figures vibe.
Chembur chi mulgi Vidya Balan is the gravitational center around which the rest of the able cast (Akshay, Taapsee, Sonakshi, Kriti, Nithya, Sharman) revolves. Sanjay Kapoor who we thought we had lost in space, makes a comeback with a sly nod to the one movie we remember him for.
All good till the very end, but as is mandatory in every movie having a patriotic flavor nowadays, the Greatest Man and Dear Leader prior to whose coronation in 2014 the country apparently never achieved anything, makes an appearance. Mangalyaan went in to Mars orbit on Sep 24, 2014, barely 4 months into his tenure, with 99% of the mission accomplished from the conception to the construction and including the successful launch of the rocket in Nov 2013, but he is the only politician worthy of a mention?
