Bharat - Bhai goes Gump

Updated: Apr 9, 2020

"Zinda hoon main tujhme, tujhme rahoonga zinda, Tod ke sab zanjeerein, main azaad parinda" "Doob jaoonga teri aankhon ke ocean mein, slow motion mein" The rousing anthem like nature of the first song versus the cringe-worthy lyrics of the second just about sums up Bharat. There are parts which are really good, that are emotional and really tug at your heartstrings, or are genuinely funny, and then there are parts that are awkwardly cringy. But all in all I enjoyed it more than I thought I would going in. Katrina is upping her game, Sunil Grover is reliably good and of course Bhai is Bhai even when playing a 70 year old.

The biggest surprise in the movie (I am not revealing a spoiler here) is that in today’s environment it is the first and only movie or any media anywhere I believe, that has something good to say about ex-India PM Manmohan Singh and give him even a modicum of respect and his due for the launch of economic liberalization. That alone was worth the price of admission.

Let's cut to the chase, since everyone already has a bunch of preconceived notions of the movie - about its length (at a bladder bursting 3 hours 22 minutes, the RunPee app was never more in demand),
